 The Detroit Windsor Tunnel stands as a remarkable feat of engineering and a vital link between the cities of Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario. Stretching over 1.6 miles beneath the Detroit River, this underwater international border crossing serves as a critical passageway for the seamless movement of people and goods between the United States and Canada. Our facility handles approximately 12,000 vehicles daily, totaling over four million vehicles annually, with 98% being passenger vehicles.

As a joint venture between the Cities of Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan, the tunnel operates under a unique management structure. Windsor Detroit Border Link manages Windsor operations, while the Detroit Tunnel oversees Detroit operations. This collaborative approach ensures efficient operation and maintenance of this crucial infrastructure.

The tunnel features state-of-the-art systems, including a modern ventilation network capable of supplying up to 1.5 million cubic feet of fresh air per minute. Our commitment to safety and efficiency is demonstrated through continuous upgrades and improvements, including major renovations to enhance the traveler experience and maintain the highest standards of security and service.
